If you are a collector of art, you can’t just pick up a magazine and find out what the best paintings are. Even when you know the style of painting that you like, there are still many artists who produce paintings in those styles. So how do you go about finding the best work that is out there?
Well, first, there is no exact science to this. There are many different types of art and there are many different ways that they can be viewed. You have to really understand the artist and their style as well as their subject matter before you can even begin to make an educated guess at which pieces they have done that will rank as better than others.
You have to know exactly what it is that you want in a painting before you can start looking for one. If you want something small or large, abstract or figurative, colorful or muted? Are there any specific colors that you want? How much detail do you want? Do you prefer landscapes to cityscapes?
Do not be fooled by how much a piece cost when it was sold either. This has no relevance on how much the piece is worth. The goal is to get good work at a good price, not overpay for something simply because someone else did.

My name is Eusebio and I’ve been collecting paintings for a couple of years now. I’m interested in discovering new pieces of art which would fit in with my collection. My favorite paintings are the ones which I feel touch me emotionally, or to put it another way, they make me feel something. I think that’s what separates worthwhile art from the rest.

There are a lot of different factors which have to be taken into account when choosing art; price, artist reputation, historical relevance, emotional effect as well as how it looks in a house. What is most important to me? For me personally its how much of an emotional response it creates in me but I also take into account its effect on the room it’s in and its value over time.

Jean Michel Basquiat is an American artist who has become famous for his paintings. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 22nd, 1960. Jean Michel Basquiat started out as a graffiti artist in the late 1970’s but is more well known for his fine art and neo-expressionist paintings of the 1980’s.
Titled SAMO©, this work was created by Jean Michel Basquiat in 1983. It is a painting of two faces with the words “SAMO©” written underneath it. The colors used are red, black, white and gray. This piece was sold for $110 million at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art auction on May 14th, 2013. It was purchased by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa who will display this work at his museum in Chiba Prefecture.

Jean Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) painted this work titled Untitled in 1983. This piece is an acrylic on canvas that measures 51 x 67 inches or 130 x 170 cm and depicts a skull with a crown around its head and a bird perched on top of it with an orange background. This painting sold for $48 million at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art auction on 13th May
