Making your own arrangements is surprisingly easy and can save you a lot of money. It’s also a great way to get your kids involved in the process and to teach them a little about gardening.

The following steps will show you how to make your own arrangements with items that are readily available at any grocery store. You’ll spend less than $10 and have some fun doing it.*Here are three ways to make some floral arrangements yourself:

1. Purchase flowers in the grocery store that come in small bunches, such as gerbera daisies, sunflowers, miniature carnations and zinnias. They’re usually sold in packs of four or six stems. This is the best option if you want to do just a few arrangements.*2. Buy potted flowers at the grocery store instead of ones that are already growing in pots. This works especially well for carnations because they’re so cheap. Get enough for several blossoms at each stem. You can use them for an arrangement or plant them in an area of your garden or yard that needs some color.*3. Choose two types of vegetables from the produce section and some flowers from the florist section of the grocery store for making an interesting combination that will look good even if it isn’t

There are a few steps to making your own arrangements. First, you will need some floral foam, floral wire, and floral tape. You can find all of these at your local grocery store. You will also want to pick up some flowers and greenery at your local grocery store as well. You can use any type of flower or greenery you like, but I suggest sticking with a similar color scheme for your arrangement.

Make sure you have a bucket to put the arrangement in before you start to put it together. For this type of arrangement, the bucket should be about 15 inches tall and 12 inches wide. If you do not have a bucket available, you can purchase one at any home improvement store.

Lastly, make sure you have some scissors, because they will come in handy when it is time to put the arrangement together

3. Use different containers for different kinds of flowers. For example, put roses in a vase and fill the vase with water and place them in the center of the table, but put smaller flowers in bud vases around the room so that there is a bit of color everywhere you look.*

First, let’s talk about what you’ll need. While this can vary based on the number of arrangements you’re making and the type of flowers you have access to, there are a few essentials you should always have available.

Floral Tape: Floral tape is one of the best organizers around when it comes to floral arranging. It’s flexible, easy to use and can be found at any major grocery or craft store. The most popular option is flower frog tape, which can be used for things other than flowers (we’ll get to that later). Regular ol’ scotch tape will do in a pinch, but if you’re looking for something that looks prettier under your arrangement, go with the floral.

Ribbon: You’ll want ribbon for tying up your bouquet and to wrap around items in your arrangement. Some people like to use burlap instead of ribbon because it has a more rustic feel or twine because it’s sturdier, but ribbons tend to look better. Ribbon can be found at any craft supply store or at stores like Wal-Mart in the craft section.

Wax Paper: Wax paper is what helps keep your flowers fresh longer. If you’re using fresh flowers these will wilt quickly without them.
