Welcome to my little corner of the internet 🙂

Lemonade, when life gives you lemons.

We’ve all heard the idiom. But what happens when life doesn’t give you lemons? What if it gives you a bottle of water and a lemonade packet? Surely that’s not even close to being the same thing, right?

Wrong.

When we find ourselves in a bad situation, our first response is often to seek out the good. We look for what’s positive about the situation. We try to make lemonade out of life’s lemons. But sometimes, some situations are so bad that there simply isn’t anything good about them – no silver lining at all. It sounds ridiculous, but sometimes you can make lemonade out of nothing more than a bottle of water and a lemonade packet. In fact, I’d argue that sometimes that’s the only way to make lemonade out of something so awful as lemons. This is the art of turning lemons into lemonade – or, more specifically, turning a bad situation into something better than it would have otherwise been had you never experienced it at all.**

We have all heard the phrase “turning lemons into lemonade” and many of us have probably uttered this phrase ourselves. But exactly what does it mean?

Let’s say you are out in the yard watering your lemon tree when disaster strikes. A giant gust of wind comes, knocks over your lemon tree and all of your lemons fall out of the branches and roll away into the street! You might even think that this is how lemons grow – right in the middle of the road!

But, no, that is not at all how lemons grow. Lemons grow on the branches of a lemon tree. So where did these lemons really come from? Well, they grew on a lemon tree until they fell off. Then they rolled into the street and you found them and brought them home with you so you could eat them.

But then you couldn’t eat them because they were not lemons anymore; they were just a bunch of squishy oranges lying on your countertop. Now what?

This is when you need to turn your lemons into lemonade. You take those lemons and put them in the blender with some ice, sugar and water and then mix it up. Now you’ve got yourself some delicious fresh lemonade!

This post is about how I make lemonade when life gives me lemons, and trust me, it does. My name is Darrin and I have Cerebral Palsy.

There are two kinds of disability: the ones you can see and the ones you can’t. I fall under the second category. You may be wondering what that even means but for those who aren’t disabled it’s hard to understand.

I have always been a fan of making lemonade out of lemons, and it’s how I’ve lived my life since the day I was born. When doctors told my mother my chances of living were slim and that I would never be able to crawl or walk, she told them they were wrong. And when they said that I wouldn’t ever be able to talk or feed myself, she didn’t listen to them either. It wasn’t until she realized that even though they said they could help her with my physical disabilities, they couldn’t help her with my mental disabilities that she gave up on doctors and decided to do everything herself to give me the best life possible. And you know what? She succeeded!

I may not walk or crawl but I’ve made it this far in life. I’m an honor student at school and am

The concept of turning lemons into lemonade was originally coined by early American settlers who found that lemons were very difficult to grow. The settlers would cut up their lemons, add sugar and water, and then serve the lemonade to their guests. Because they couldn’t grow lemons in the first place, they had no way of knowing how bad the resulting drink tasted.

Trying to make something good out of a bad situation is an excellent life lesson. Sometimes we get stuck with a bad situation, and it’s important to learn how to make the best of it. Here are some ways you can use the “lemonade” method in your own life:

As you can see from the above picture, I have taken a lemon from life and turned it into something quite beautiful. I present to you….Bottle Art!

You too can turn lemons in to lemonade by creating your own bottle art.

First you need an empty glass container. I used a bottle that once held environmentally unfriendly carbonated sugar water. It was left behind by previous tenants at my apartment building. It is best to use bottles that do not have a label on them because removing labels using the method I am about to share will likely ruin the label.

When you are ready, gather up all the old newspaper clippings, letters, and other paper garbage that has been accumulating in your home and start tearing them up into pieces small enough to fit through the mouth of your bottle but large enough to take advantage of all the space inside your bottle and make a mess when you dump them out.

I used this picture of Larry David for scrap paper: {link}

To avoid getting cut by the sharp edges of the glass, cut bottles with scissors or utility knife rather than breaking them with your hands or feet. If you are lucky enough to have a dremel power tool then definitely use it to avoid injury! Be sure
