Though carving into stone is an art that has been practiced for thousands of years, it is not one that has made it into the mainstream. This is a shame. Stone carving is both fascinating and beautiful, and there are few things more unusual than seeing a piece of stone with a picture carved into it.

About The Sky Line

The Sky Line was born out of a desire to learn more about stone carving and to share what I learn with others. Carving stone is an art that has been around for thousands of years yet remains little known among the general public. Over time as I have learned more about this art form, I became increasingly interested in sharing what I have learned with others who may be curious about this practice or those who may wish to give it a try themselves.

My goal for this website is to provide information about the history of this art form, the people who practice it now and the tools they use to make their artwork. I will also include links to some of my favorite pieces from around the world in case anyone wishes to see other examples of this fascinating art form.

There are many different types of stone art, but the most popular is carving gargoyles and other designs into stone. Stone art is a very ancient piece of art that goes back to the time when humans first began to live in villages. The earliest form of stone art was carvings of animals and people on cave walls.

The earliest examples of this kind of art are found in Africa, Asia and Europe. Some believe that this type of art goes as far back as 60,000 BC. The first people to carve stone were Neolithic peoples who carved images into cave walls. These images were often of animals and humans but also included geometric shapes. The majority of these drawings were made by the women while the men hunted or gathered fruit and vegetables nearby.

These drawings are seen all over the world with famous examples being found in Altamira in Spain and Lascaux in France. Stone has been used for a long time as a canvas for artists from all over the world such as Michelangelo, Rodin and Picasso just to name a few.*

In the next several years, I’ll be blogging about the fascinating history of stone art. From the earliest days of human history, up until today, stone has been a popular medium for artists. It can be easily chiseled into or painted on. It can last forever or crumble to dust.

The most common type of stone for art is marble. This is a metamorphic rock created by heat and pressure from limestone or dolomite. Marble is beautiful and white and takes a polish well.

Stone has also been carved with metal tools using complex techniques to achieve amazing results that are lasting pieces of art. The Egyptian skillfully used softer stones like alabaster and limestone to create stylized figurines and carvings that were often buried with royalty.

Knowledgeable collectors can tell authentic artifacts from fake by how they were made, what materials were used and how they were made. This blog will teach you all about this fascinating subject.*

The oldest known rock carving is a bear on the wall of the Chauvet Cave in southern France. Created more than 30,000 years ago, the image is startlingly detailed. The artist who carved it probably had to contend with bears as well as the elements of nature.

These ancient stone carvings are not as well-known as their counterparts from Egypt, Greece and Rome, but they are no less fascinating. Stone art offers an insight into what life was like for our ancestors and what they thought about themselves and their world. Many of these amazing images have survived for thousands of years on their own and can be found in caves, mountainsides and walls around the globe.

The blog showcases photographs and information about some of these incredible works of art. It will also provide a forum to discuss the history, meaning and importance of stone art.

Stone carving is a fascinating art form that has been practiced in many lands and by artists from many different cultures. It is a truly international art form that transcends language barriers and cultural differences.

There are two basic types of stone carving. The first one is the more traditional type that involves chiseling away at the stone surface to reveal the form within. A more recent technique involves using glass or metal pieces to outline an image and then covering it with a layer of wax or epoxy and attaching it to the stone surface. In both cases, a high level of skill and artistic talent is required to produce quality stone carvings.

In addition to being beautiful works of art, stone carvings have historically served as important religious symbols in many cultures (such as Christianity) as well as being used for practical purposes like grave markers or memorials.

There are many beautiful stone carvings in our world. Stone carving is an art form that dates back to the early times. The earliest examples of stone carving come from the Neolithic period and can be seen in ancient civilizations such as Rome, Egypt, and Greece. One of the most famous examples of stone carving is at the Egyptian Empire’s Great Pyramids of Giza, where craftsmen carved hieroglyphics and illustrations into the stone.

Tongan people also carved their own form of stone art. Tonga is an island country in the Southern Pacific Ocean that is known for its unique culture. Tongan architecture, like other Polynesian architecture, was mainly made out of wood with thatched roofs and walls made out of coral limestone or lava rocks to keep out the wind and rain. Luckily, a few examples have been preserved to this day due to the remoteness of Tonga islands from any major cities or settlements where they could be destroyed by natural disasters or human actions.

The emphasis on stone carvings during this time period was due to a lack of materials and tools available to them coupled with their creativity and desire to create wondrous works of art that could be passed down through generations. Most carvings were done for religious ceremonies because

Stone carving is one of the oldest known arts, dating back to ancient civilizations.

Stone carvings have been found in many locations around the world, and their purpose ranges from religious references to artistic representations.

One of the most impressive examples of stone carving is to be found on the island of Malta at a site called Sliema.

The site was discovered by accident while workers were digging in 1944, and they unearthed large pieces of ornately carved limestone dating back to 4000 BC.

They continued to unearth more and more pieces, with some dating back to 3000 BC and others being even older.

These carvings were done by prehistoric man, who had no metal tools or chisels with which to carve them out of stone.

That led scientists to conclude that the carvings must have been quite painstakingly done as rock was quite hard for a person to carve into.
