I am an artist, wife, mother and a teacher of almost 30 years! I love art and sharing my knowledge with others is something that I truly enjoy. Art taught me how to appreciate the good things in life because it takes hard work, dedication, perseverance and discipline!

I have been creating many different types of artwork since childhood, including but not limited to oil paintings, acrylic paintings, portraits, digital art, etc. My favorite medium though is oil painting because it allows me more freedom than the other media.

Creating photo collages, also known as photo montages or picture collages, is a fun and creative way to share your family memories and photos with friends and family.

There are many reasons why people would want to create a photo collage. Family members may want to commemorate an important event or occasion. Tutorial: Creating a Photo Collage with Picasa

Picasa is free software from Google that can help you create collages. There are other free programs that you can use to make your own collage, such as GIMP, Paint and iPhoto. Picasa is made for all levels of computer users and has very user-friendly features and controls. If you have not used Picasa before, this tutorial will help you design your first photo collage in just minutes.

The first time I started working as a graphic designer, I was given the job of creating a photo collage for my company’s website. It was 2006 and I had heard of this “photo collage” thing but had never used one before. Sure, I’d created a few web layouts, but this photo collage thing was new to me.

To be honest, I wasn’t even sure what they were supposed to look like. But, being the cheap and scrappy designer that I am, I fired up Microsoft Word and started playing around. It wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done and I didn’t have to go out and buy any fancy programs or hire a pro.

To make your own photo collage:

Step 1 – Download free software.

One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to download GIMP . GIMP is an open source program that works like Photoshop or Illustrator, but it’s free! You can download it here .

I’ve also found that Picnik , another free online photo editing site works well for making simple photo collages (without purchasing or installing any software).

Step 2 – Decide what you want to use as your background.

This will usually be the color

When you want to create a collage for a specific project, the first step is to identify what image sizes you will need. If you are creating a collage for a website with lots of different images, choose a standard size like 800×600 pixels or 1200×900 pixels. If it’s for print use, you may need to find out your publisher’s preferred image size.

Once you have decided on the size, you can start gathering up photos. You can scan in old photos from an actual photo album or collect them online. Don’t forget that many online photo sites allow you to download huge batches of images for free.

When you have your images ready, most graphics software allows you to arrange and resize your photos easily so they fit into your layout. Some graphics programs even allow you to choose how transparent or opaque the top layer should be as well as a wide range of blending effects.

After choosing the right photos and arranging them, it’s time to decorate the picture with text or other graphic elements. Again, most graphics programs provide hundreds of clip-art options and layouts. Once finished, save the collage in a high-resolution file format (such as JPEG, GIF or PNG) for use on websites and in print.
